Tour to Bedok NEWater Plant

Organised by Mr Su Ronghua, the VS ASEAN and A*Star Scholars visited the Newater Plant in Bedok.

It was the first time I had also been to the NEWater facilities and so it was a good eye-opener for me:

The plant was very well set-up and lots of thought and design had gone into it to make it visitor friendly as well as to be interactive for students.

Our Lower Sec boys definitely enjoyed themselves with some of the hands-on activities there

Most importantly, our guide, Mr Herbert, gave us a distinct breakdown of the various steps and stages in turning raw water into NEWater:

The boys and I definitely enjoyed ourselves and the guided tour of the facilities showed students process of ultra filtration, reverse osmosis and UV water treatment to turn raw water into Newater definitely helped to give the ASEAN/A*Star Scholars an idea of the challenges Singapore faces in terms of limited resources.
I am sure this will help them in their Social Studies as they explore how Singapore overcomes our various social, economical and politcal challenges

Victoria Hall CNY Dinner 2009

Yesterday, Victoria Hall celebrated the 15th Day of the Chinese New Year with a steamboat buffet for all the boarders.

It definitely was a fun time for the boarders to bond and have a good time. There were lots of activities and games.
Here we see the boarders competitng to see which table can peel enough 'kwa chee' to fill up the diagram of the Ox on their paper

Which CNY celebration is complete without the ever popular karaoke- Here we have Aaron Tung from Malaysia belting our Michael Bolton's "Go the Distance"

Our new Vietnamese scholar Mai aka Alex, finally managed to get his track to play and say a great rendition of 'When you believe'

So here's to a great year ahead for all of us in Victoria School and Victoria Hall!

Lo Hei for CNY

Over the course of the CNY, we had a series of Lo Hei amongst the boys in Victoria School.

Here we see Sec 4B graced by the presence of Mr Low, our Principal, giving the Serious PE class some words of encouragement in the the Year of the Ox

Our boys in the hostel were not to be left out!
Courtesy of my partner in crime, Mr Su Ronghua (and his Mum), a sumptuous spread of Lo Hei was prepared for them on Wed, after their Compulsory Study Time.
We were joined by 2 new boarders: Welcome to Marcus and Kym Hwe!

Since we had so many boarders, we decided to do Lo Hei 'United Nations' style.
The boys mixed the dish according to nationality (of course, we had some foreign imports to help out as well: right, Harri?)

Great to see the way Akshat learnt how to handle the chop-sticks! And also welocome our furthest guest, Kym Hwe from Korea!

They win the 'Immunity Idol' of the Luck Ox which will be presented to the cleanest room the next time we have this competition. heh heh.

I was representing Glam House for the teachers' events. Its the 8 by 50m. It was an encouraging sight to see all the teachers so sporting to take part in this event. I was given the honour to run the last leg for Glam House. I was hoping to use my cross country training to good use for the last dash. Haha. I was given the baton but the gap is really too far for me to catch up. Nonetheless we managed to secure the 3rd place. Good job!I am looking forward to the Sports Day 2009.

Quite funny. There is no plot in the movie. You just have to go in and enjoyed the jokes. I found out from XP that Stephen made the show to commemorate the death of Stephen's dog. It has been a while since i went to Lido to catch a movie. On the whole a good movie for a family retreat.I would prefer to watch in Cantonese

Today ...my CT Mrs Tan treats us some of the teachers to a power buffer lunch at SRC club at padang...i must say the buffet is very good...the price is 25.I must say its very worth it...they really give good stuff..they have a wide variety of dishes...sure to please everyone...of cos i am the happiest....food...mah...eat and chat...got to the other teachers more...it really fun working at telok kurau sec sch...its sad to know i am leaving to go back NIE..But life goes on....

After the lunch..we head back to school for Yoga session which was conducted by the yoga master..he is really fasinating ...he can do alot of impossible manuevers...which some looks very easy...but...impossible..to do...we had an hour session...feel very shiok...whole body feel damn refreshed....
