Tribute to Daley Thompson

I was reading up on the Daley Thompson the sportman on my adidas jacket..I knew that he was a great althele..only when i looked at his records..he is really good..I have to admit and respect him.. he is one of the greatest althele in the sporting history.But i found out was really amazing his archievements ,his views and his way of life and esp his history and his motto in life.

he is a World's Greatest Decathlete

A decathlon is a sportive contest made up of 10 events. The term decathlon usually refers to an athletic (track and field) event. Normally occurring over two days, the event pushes athletes to their limits.

Day 1:

* 100 m
* long jump
* shot put
* High Jump
* 400 m

Day 2:

* 110m hurdles
* discus throw
* pole vault
* javelin throw
* 1500 m

The decathlon has been included in the program of the Olympic Games since 1912. It is one of the most highly respected Gold Medals. In many cases, including international competition, it is only contested by men

Thompson won consecutive gold medals at the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Games, and broke the world record for the event four times. His best score in the event was set in the 1984 Olympic competition at 8847 points, a world record that stood for nine years and an Olympic record that stood for 20 years until the Czech athlete Roman Šebrle scored 8893 points in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. He competed for an unprecedented third Olympic decathlon gold at the 1988 Seoul games, but was severely hampered by injury and could only finish fourth. Thompson was the first athlete to simultaneously hold Olympic, Commonwealth, European and World titles in a single event.

The decathlon requires proficiency in ten events - the shot put, discus and javelin throws; the long and high jumps; the pole vault; the 100 m, the 400 m and the 1500 m run and the 110 m hurdles. The winner is considered the all-round athletics champion. In 1984, a British athlete, Daley Thompson, became only the second person in Olympic history to claim the decathlon gold twice.

Born on July 30th 1958 in Notting Hill, London, of Scottish and Nigerian parentage, Thompson first competed in the decathlon in the 1976 Montreal Games as an 18-year-old. He finished 18th! Four years later at the Moscow Olympics, he won the gold medal, finishing 150 points ahead of his nearest rival.

Till Thompson arrived on the scene, the decathlon was one of the least popular spectator events in athletics. Thompson changed all that with his colour and flamboyance. He made each element of the decathlon a drama in itself. He was a superb athlete, one who had dedicated his life to nothing but getting better and better in the event. The number of world-class decathletes shot up during the 'Daley decade'. A score of 8000 points was bettered over 500 times in the 1980's!

In the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, Thompson was at his peak. He won the gold with a total of 8797 points, equalling American Bob Mathias' achievement of two decathlon golds. A year later, the IAAF adjusted the scores and Thompson was given the world record with 8847 points.

He was a top class performer at a wide range of events, with a silver medal at 4x100m relay and sixth at pole vault at the 1986 Commonwealth Games and bronze at 4x100m at the 1986 Europeans. He was fifth at long jump and the winner of the decathlon at the 1977 European Juniors. He took national titles at the long jump, AAA in 1977 and UK in 1979. Individual event bests: 100m 10.26 (1986), 200m 20.88 (1979), 400m 46.86 (1982), 1500m 4:20.3 (1976), 110mh 14.04 (1986), 400mh 52.14 (1986), high jump 2.14mi (1982), 2.11 (1980); pole vault 5.25m (1986), long jump 8.01m (1984), 8.11w (1978); shot 16.10m (1984), discus 49.10m (1986), javelin 65.38m (1980), new specification 64.04 (1988). went to kiat house at boon lay...watch finding nemo movie..used to think that a childish movie..but it really quite good..and in the characterization technique..

after going to my uncle koon tai house..reach there about 1230pm..hang around and chit chat with my cousins til abt 3pm..B4 going to another cousin house at Redhill..Actually is my cousin new house at redhill..i must say that the location of the house is very convenient ..just beside the mrt..really a gd buy..Sit there and chit chat again..

Start to organise outing..maybe mahjong ..decided to go lisi cousin house at bedok..I also never get to see her new born baby yee ling cos of my tuition last fri..kind of excited to see the new baby..

I think my cousin lisi has changed alot..she used to be very carefree and happy go lucky person even when she is married..Can see she change alot..Wah really having a baby can change a whole person completely..Seeing her so caring and responsible ..just reminds and enforces that the idea of bringing up a child is seriously a noble and demanding task...phew..really nt easy to be a parent..

CNY 1st day

my cousin dog..sparky breed schanuzer..haha..5 years old liao..even older than me..cos 7*5=35human years..My cousin samantha combing the fur..

Reunion Dinner

mum was really busy for the whole day..she was busy like hell to prepare so much food..haha..she is very particular about CNY customs..She say must cook alot for the dinner so they will be left over..symbolsing generous return in this coming year..

She also make sure that the fridge is stacked full of food

CNY eve

was trying out on Vivi..the cloth bought for her at cha tuk chuck market in bankok..SHe like very shy..dun want me to wear for her...haha..this year is dog year..got her something special..I think it look nice and fitting on her

superb concert and nice chat

went to june kiat concert..this guy really superb..climb well,sing well and basically man of all trade...after the concert hang out at city hall chat about everything under the sun..hehe...check out the photos..haha..and flowers for kiat..we forever support u..haha

Going to Chinatown

this is the 2nd attempt in trying to go Chinatown..Lately the weather was quite bad..always raining..Before going out of my house also raining..REally want to go chinatown to check it out..luckily the weather clears up..phew..

Went to chinatown..try out the Fish SLice Mee Hoon ..it was quite good..haha..i think i ordered too much and 2 other dishes of finger food..Managed to finish it finally..

Went to the pasar malam and check out the stalls ..was really quite packed...Notice that the things that were on sale have changed quite abit as compard to the past..now more varieties like clothes and other stuff..Found out that there are less stalls selling bwa kua and the wax duck...

Nuclear lecture PC3232

nuclear lecture on thurs..some of it taken by kok chin..haha..it really very boring lecture..really dun noe what he is trying to say..cannot make it..

we are supposed to take this module to learn how to make nuclear bomb..i guess this mod supposed to be hard..if not all countries would have nuclear bomb..haha

Wah at least the weather is damn good..Sun is strong..but the crowd is extremely quiet...gdness..I am more than happy for the weather...
I am working at tower3..I have never do on that tower b4..This tower is the fav tower among the lifeguards..cos very slack..but the bad thing is only 1 person working only..haha
Interesting to note that there alot of suntan beds right below my tower..find it abit weird..haha..

Went to run around the beach..i tell my self die die must hit the end to end of the beach..6.5 km..i took like 35 mins to finish..abit bad..nvm..i am starting to train now..

Bewerkz and Rock climbing

went to brewerkz to have supper with my sportsball comm friends..Going to support June Kiat for his concert next sat...Basically slack around and catch up with each other with of cos my fav beer and finger food..

Happen to have a rock climbing competition outside tom..June Kiat shows us a trick or 2..Dun play play..NUS rock climbing captain..haha..

working at sentosa sunday 080106

yesterday was working at tower 4 and coastes beach..Haven been working for some time..alot of stuff have changed..But i thinked it for the better...

Wah ...yesterday was raining entire day..really a bad day to do lifeguad duty..I am working for the first time at coastes ..really damn lobo..there..the best thing there is u can talk to the ppl working at the coaste bar and the ppl working in the billabong shop..best thing..they blast their music all the way out..haha..too bad it raining ..so not so happening...

really inspires me and i pause to give some thought..2 years have passed ..i going to grad soon..looking back i really enjoy my days in NUS i mean not studying..I mean meeting interesting friends and professors..Really meet a lot of interesting and like minded ppl in NUS ..Really not a wasted trip..

Really my days at NUSULC was really fun.I learned so much stuff..I always wanted to be a lifeguard..NUS Life guards rocks...The training and the hanging out after trainings..It also opens me to the option of working part time at sentosa..which is the most happening job i have ever have..

We are really one big family..I am now taking my BC course ..i hope to pass..
Training this sat at sentosa...hehe..here i come..
